6132-2025-26—Townsville (TFTA) Demolition and Site Remediation

The former C-Band radar facility at the Townsville Field Training Area (TFTA) was decommissioned following commissioning of the replacement S-Band radar. Under its obligations with Defence and relevant environmental requirements, the Bureau is required to complete make-good works at the site. The radar tower and other major infrastructure have already been removed. The remaining works involve demolition and removal of the tower footing and residual infrastructure, removal of redundant services, backfilling of excavations, and reinstatement of disturbed areas. Electrical services have been isolated by Ergon Energy. The site has been assessed and no contamination, hazardous materials or unexploded ordnance requiring management have been identified.
