More from FORD CIVIL CONTRACTING PTY LTD
ANSTO have awarded the contract to Ford Civil to implement a geo membrane capping to reduce rainfall infiltration into a series of waste disposal trenches that contain a variety of hazardous wastes historically buried at the Little Forest site.
By reducing the water infiltration, the capping aims to reduce the migration of hazardous particles through the underlying groundwater and reduce the “overflowing bathtub” effect observed during periods of heavy rainfall.
The capping is to perform as an interim solution (with a 10 to 15-year design life) whilst being maintainable and allow for the continued and ongoing monitoring and research activities that are performed at the Site.
